Top 10 at KRWT

Well what a way to end my Walleye Tournament season!!! The year started with a 2nd place finish with my Dad at the FLWC. The Kapuskasing River Walleye Tournament was the last stop for Simeon and I on the circuit and we came in 9th place, our 1st time on the podium together and he is only 9 years old. We could have won many times over but our "little" mistakes cost us in the end. On day 1 dad lands a 7lber 20 minutes in and follows that with a 3.5lber(over 10lbs at 9:30am) We could not get 4 unders and only handed in 2 fish for the day. OUCH!!! We were in 24th place. Day 2 saw us with 6 fish good for 13.5lbs and we moved up to 9th place and missed first place by 5 lbs. (our 4 little ones) We ended up only handing in 8 fish for the weekend but still had 24lbs. We won $450 . Sim also caught our biggest fish on day 2 just under 4 lbs. He was The net man on the 7lber as well. It was a great year for me as 3 generations of Laukkanens made it on the podium. Way to go Dad and Sim!!!

Geraldton and trip

It has been along time since the Geraldton Walleye Tournament. Sim and I had a rogh time as we missed a big walleye on day one right at the boat(5-6lbs) we would have had big fish of the day and  in the top 10 in standings. Oh well that is the way it goes. We had a great time there and our accomadations were fantastic. We will be back next year. The boat then sat for 3 weeks and last week we finally made it out fishing and had shore lunch for the 1st time this year. My youngest son Jacob also caught his 1st fish a Pike . Way to go Jake!!!

My Son and I learned some things at the Dubreuilville Fathers Day Derby

Well I was not sure what to post about our trip to Dubreuilville Derby so I will just stick to the facts and share some of what we learned. I first went to this town 20 years ago and wore a Toronto Maple leafs hat and this town is all about the Montreal Canadians. I told people for many years that this town was not nice to English out of towners who are Leaf fans. I have been back fishing their Derby now for the last 3 years and WOW have things changed! This town is now very tourist friendly and the people there have treated us well except for a few bad apples, but this is true any where you go. I would like to thank the organizers and volunteers of this Derby as once again they did a great job. Way to go! My Son and I had some troubles but we were still able to fish and my Son handled our issues well. There were some who helped us out as well and I would like to thank those who gave us words of encouragement and helped us out. On day 1 we only caught 1 fish that was 19 inches and it weighed 2.13 pounds. On day 2 we caught 4 fish with the biggest being 18 inches and 3 small ones (none over 16inches) and our total weight was 3.04 pounds for a total of 5.17 pounds for the weekend. The weekend before My Dad and I fished the Frazer Lake Walleye Classic and handed in 6 fish with 2 over 18". Our biggest was 27" followed by a 21" we also had 18", 17.5", 17", 16", 16" for a total weight of  just under 13 pounds. Our 21 incher was 2.4 pounds and the 27 incher was under 5lbs????? I find this interesting. I guess the fish are fatter in Dubreuilville. Some of the issues we had in Dubreuilville was people "bugging us" and my Son was upset but he was happy to be in the Derby. Some people don't like his Dad and bugging a child is wrong. Isaiah Chapter 11 Verse 6 says. The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, the calf and the young lion and the fatling together, and a little child shall lead them. Mathew Chapter 18 Verse 1-7 says.At this time the disciples came to Jesus, saying "Who then is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" And Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midstof them, and said, "Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven."Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. "And whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me. "But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea."Woe to the world because of offences! For offences must come, but woe to that man by whom the offences comes!

I am not a perfect man and I still make mistakes in life, for those who know me well I once was a very wild man and comited great sins before the Lord. Jesus has changed my life for the better , but I still struggle with some of my old ways. If I have hurt anyone reading this I am sorry. My children are teaching me to not carry grudges and to love my foes, but I am still trying to get it right. I am a blessed man even though I don't deserve it, but that is the Power of Jesus Chist who forgives all sins if we are willing to repent and humble ourselves. I hope this post is a blessing to someone and I am looking forward to my next Tournament with my Son.

Just a story or two

Well back in May I took my 2 boys out for an evening fish for Brook Trout and we landed 2 fish. My oldest son Simeon caught his new personal best with a 23 incher that was 5 pounds 12 ounces way to go Sim!!! He is only 9 years old and now has 2 over 5 lbs,Dad also caught a 5lber. The next adventure was with my Dad as we fished the Frazer Lake Walleye Classic in Nipigon and we had a great day placing 2nd and winning $2000. I have fished this Derby 4 years with my dad and we have been in the top 10 3 out of 4 years way to go Dad!!!! This derby has some very good fishermen in it every year and I would like to congratulate Roger Mayer and Tom Friday for just beating us out for 1st place and the biggest fish. Way to go guys!!!! Sorry no pics.
